At NC Roofing Services, we recently completed a full reroofing project on a residential property in Alexandria, replacing an ageing and damaged roof with a durable new tiled system designed to protect the home for many years to come.
Assessing the Existing Roof
When we first inspected the property, the original roof was showing clear signs of wear and deterioration. Many of the existing tiles had shifted or broken over time, creating gaps that allowed moisture and debris to enter the roof structure. There was also visible moss growth and weather damage across large sections of the roof.
In addition to the worn roof covering, the existing rooflight and surrounding flashing had deteriorated, increasing the risk of water ingress around the opening.
Because of the extent of the damage and the age of the materials, the best long-term solution for the homeowner was a complete reroof rather than patch repairs.
Stripping Back the Old Roof
Our team installed safe scaffolding access and carefully stripped the roof back to the timber structure. All old tiles, battens and worn materials were removed, allowing us to inspect the roof deck and ensure the underlying structure was sound before installing the new system.
Removing the old roof also allowed us to properly prepare the surface and install modern roofing components that significantly improve weather protection and ventilation.
Installing the New Roofing System
Once the roof structure had been prepared, we installed a new breathable roofing membrane and fresh treated timber battens to create a strong base for the new roof covering.
The property was then reroofed with modern interlocking roof tiles, giving the home a clean and uniform finish while providing excellent durability against Scotland’s harsh weather conditions.
As part of the project we also:
- Installed a new roof window with proper flashing to ensure a watertight seal
- Replaced worn edge details and roofline components
- Ensured correct tile alignment and secure fixing throughout the roof
- Cleaned and finished the surrounding roof areas
The Finished Result
The completed roof has transformed the appearance of the property while providing a far more reliable and weatherproof roofing system. The new tiles create a neat, modern look and the upgraded rooflight improves natural light inside the home.
Most importantly, the homeowner now has long-term protection against leaks, wind damage and general roof deterioration.
